Edwardian Elgar, Ironic Ives to end the semester

University Organist Annette Richards performs the final Midday Music for Organ recital this semester with a program that celebrates the end of the academic year with reflections on her own heritage, and on the ‘Special Relationship’ between Britain and the U.S. In the age of Brexit and Trump (who heads to Britain for a state visit this summer, as long as he can get a ride in the golden carriage to meet the Queen), Prof. Richards brings us the elegiac ‘Vesper Voluntaries’ of Edward Elgar (1857-1934), the nostalgic ‘Master Tallis’s Testament’ by Herbert Howells (1892-1983) and the hilarious genre-busting treatment of ‘God Save the Queen’ that is the ‘Variations on America’ by Charles Ives (1874-1954). Wednesday, May 10th, 12:30pm. Sage Chapel.
